I’ve always been the kind of person that loves me some New Year goals. I find myself putting a list together each year, even though they don’t all get accomplished.

Each fresh new year always just seems so full of possibility. I can’t help but let my mind run wild with all the things I could accomplish this year. I inevitably always make my list too long, and cannot possibly meet every goal. However, to me, any kind of progress at all leaves me closer to where I want to be than if I didn’t try.

So here were are again at the beginning of 2019 with a fresh new list of goals. I am sharing my list below, as well as what I am doing to try and reach all of them. I do try to evaluate how things are going throughout the year, and will provide updates as it makes sense to do so.

My 2019 New Year Goals

Pretty Up The Yard

Since buying our house over one year ago, we have barely even touched the yard, other than mowing the lawn. The garden maybe got weeded once this past summer. Clearly, this is an area that needs much improvement this year. Last year’s goal was to update our kitchen, which we did accomplish and it turned out amazing. Hopefully we can get some great results as well on our yard this year.

Pay Off Our Kitchen

So that kitchen renovation I mentioned above cost us muchos dolares last year. Hence, why the yard didn’t get done. The goal for this year is to get rid of that debt, and have more room for fun things like, ya know, traveling and such.

Pay Off Our Living Room Furniture

What they don’t tell you when you buy a house is that you will then need a bunch of furniture to fill it with. My hubby and I’s college furniture didn’t quite cut it, so we invested in some grown-up and halfway decent type stuff. We financed it with 0% interest over 48 months, but the fact of the matter is I hate having excess monthly payments. It leaves less extra cash for the fun stuff like traveling and all that. Therefore, that bad boy’s gotta go this year as well.

Pay Off My Car

I got overruled on this one by hubby. I hate having monthly payments I don’t need, and am willing to throw money at debt to get rid of it. When it comes to debt with low interest rates though, my husband does not see eye-to-eye with me on this. Since marriage is about compromise, I let this one go. It’s only got about a year and a half left of payments anyhow. Sigh…

Complete the Cleveland Brewery Passport

Finally, a fun goal that has nothing to do with adult responsibilities! If you don’t know about the Cleveland Brewery Passport, it’s basically a fun incentive to visit over 30 breweries in the Cleveland area. We’ve only made it to about 7 so far, which we actually had to plan out to make sure we followed through on going. It’s quite the undertaking, but one that allows us to explore and try new places in our wonderful city. One of our most recent trips even led us to spend an afternoon exploring the Tremont neighborhood – an area we rarely make it out to.

Finish Furnishing Our Living Room

That was a nice break from adult responsibilities, but now we’re back. Our living room has one couch in it currently, albeit a big and cozy once. I would like a large comfy chair to go with it, and maybe a couple more smaller chairs near our fireplace. I don’t think this one should be too much to ask of ourselves this year!

Be Able to Do Crow Pose

Last year, I set an intention of doing more yoga, which I proudly achieved. I’m taking it up a notch this year with my goal of hitting more challenging poses. I have never once been able to balance my knees on my arms, but maybe this will be the year.

Write One Blog Post A Week

Last year was my first year of having my blog. I had a great time experimenting with it, and managed to publish about 30 posts. This had felt like a lot for me, since I also have a full time job and a husband and puppy I like to spend time with. However, yesterday big-time travel blogger The Blonde Abroad shared she published upwards of 200 in one year. I think I can afford to do a little bit better this year than 30. This one will for sure be a challenge, and I’m trying to get a backlog of 10 posts prepared for weeks where I just won’t be able write anything. We’ll see how this one plays out.

Read One Book A Month

I almost want to laugh as I type this one, because I can literally foresee about zero time to accomplish this. Yes, I may still manage to read a few books this year, but one a month seems like a stretch. However, there is no harm in trying, so it still made the list.

Have More of a Home Office Set Up

There are so many benefits to this one. I would love the ability to work from home better for my current accounting job. It would also make blogging a bit more civilized as well, as I lay on the floor on my stomach typing this. Who am I kidding, I’ve always done my best work typing on the floor – even in school! Some habits die hard, but maybe this will be the year I start working at a desk. I know my husband would love to have a space to do his work as well, so this would benefit more than just me anyhow.

Get to Level 2 in Italian and French

There are two things already a bit off about this goal. Number 1, I can’t pinpoint exactly what it means to be at level two. I just know I want to be more than whatever level one is. Number 2, learning two languages, one of which I am starting from scratch with, in a matter of months will be very tough. Especially on top of trying to blog weekly and having a full time job. I start to get a touch of anxiety even thinking about it. Taking a deep breath and moving on…

Buy a New Camera Lens

Last year I invested in the Sony A6000 as my first non-iPhone camera. The only lens I currently have for it is a wide angle that I bought solely in the hopes of seeing the Northern Lights in Iceland. Those pesky lights never did show up, but thankfully it has still proved very helpful for shooting landscape photos. However, I kind of want more of an all purpose lens, so I’m hoping I can find room in the budget for one this year.

Conclusion: I have possibly way too many goals for the new year

Well, yikes, that kind of seems like a lot! As I said before, though, I really can’t help myself. I love setting goals, even if I only partially achieve them. The foreign language one will especially be tough, but my husband is doing it with me and we’re going to help each other learn. Even if we don’t meet arbitrary “level 2”, we’ll still know more than we would have, so I feel comfortable with that thought.

That’s enough talking about goals. Let’s get to work!
