I’m popping by with a quick update on the goals I made at the beginning of 2022. While I know these are probably mostly interesting to me, I still like to record my progress for personal accountability. Plus, if you are working towards something right now, maybe you want to see how someone else is doing in their journey.

If you read my initial post this year, you might remember that January was rough over here. Things are better now, thanks to the ongoing effort I’ve made on my mental health. Even simple things, like less wine and fried food and more sleep, make such a difference.

Even so, I started 2022 really motivated, and that has not changed. I did go back and do taxes for about a month and a half this winter. While that took away from my blog productivity at the time, I’ve been hard at work since then.

With that, here’s a quick update on how my 2022 goals are going. Thanks for following along!

My 11 New Year’s Goals for 2022

1. Visit 8 New Places

Here are some new places I’ve visited so far in 2022:

  1. Ireland
  2. Northern Ireland
  3. Copenhagen, Denmark
  4. Cherry Blossom Trees at Wade Lagoon in Cleveland
  5. Ice cave and glacier lagoon in Iceland
  6. Memphis, Tennessee

2. Snuggle My Dog

I give my yorkie, Bennie, snuggles as often as he’ll let me. He is an independent boy who likes his space.

3. Paint Our Upstairs Hallway

This is still on the to-do list. Hopefully this spring/summer!

4. Bake Homemade Bread

This has primarily been watching my husband make homemade bread. After all, he’s the one who got the cookbook for Christmas!

However, I’ve successfully eaten the white bread that he has made so far this year.

5. Bake French Pastries

My husband got me a beautiful French pastry cookbook for Christmas. In January and February, I began diving into a few of the recipes, which are sometimes pretty complex.

So far, I’ve made the following:

  • Uneven puff pastry
  • Delicious pastry cream
  • Misshapen but otherwise successful pâte à choux
  • Crème brûlée (although this isn’t actually in the cookbook)

6. Continue Studying French

I’m still so inconsistent with this. My efforts this year have mostly been on Duolingo, and I did make it to a 30-day streak at one point. Sadly, I am back in the single digits again.

There’s hope though! While speaking with Benny, The Irish Polygot, during Travel Con, I received some of the best language learning tips so far. I also have some extra incentive to fully commit during this spring/summer (more on that later).

Also, Benny apparently dislikes Duolingo, and thinks it’s more or less a game. Not sure I’m ready to believe that yet. I love Duolingo!

7. Read 12 Books

I basically never meet this goal, but still put in a concerted effort to read books every year. Here is what I’ve read in 2022:

  • Reread Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed
  • Dear Haiti, Love Alaine by Maika Moulite and Maritza Moulite
  • Still reading Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

8. Post 52 Total Blog Posts

This is my biggest goal for 2022. Consistency is so important in blogging, and I’ve never managed to publish one post a week over a whole year before.

That’s why I got rid of my old “post once a week” goal, and instead am shooting for 52 total posts, regardless of when they are published. There are some times of the year when it’s very difficult to post regularly, and others when I have much more time. I’m focusing on productivity over perfectionism.

So far, I have completed 8 posts, or 15.38% of my goal. This one makes 9.

9. Take at Least One Solo Trip

So far this year, I have traveled solo to Copenhagen. It was an awesome experience, full of beautiful castles and colorful waterfronts. I even found adorable shops where I could buy some local yarn.

10. Buy a New Phone

Done! This was so needed. I have a much better camera now and a lot more storage space than I did before. My old phone was starting to act up when doing just about anything, so I am happy to have an upgrade.

Now, I just need to get my hands on a new computer…

11. Visit One New State

Not done yet, and I currently have nothing scheduled. It’s already May, so I better start thinking about a new state to visit…

I had not looked at these goals since I first wrote them, so it was cool to go back and see what I’ve accomplished so far. It’s been a busy few months, and I’m feeling very motivated to keep the momentum going.

What are you excited about this spring?
